Senate Bill 2473 Dropping of Chief of Inspections

Senate Bill 2473

Senate Bill 2473 will eliminate the Chief of Inspections position in the Department of Public Safety and transfer all of this positions responsibility into the hands of the Commissioner of Public Safety.

This position should not be transferred  to any present or future Commissioner of Public Safety who does not have the qualifications and experience to carry out the function and duties of the Chief of Inspections.

Senate Bill 2473 has already passed the Senate and is presently in the House Steering, Policy and Scheduling Committee and must be kept in this Committee and not got to the HOUSE FLOOR for a vote. If this Bill goes to the HOUSE FLOOR for a vote it will be passed. You need to make sure the House Steering, Policy and Scheduling Committee keeps this Bill in their committee.

Contact the members of the House Steering, Policy and Scheduling Committee by logging on to their site at: http://www.mass.gov/legis/comm/h52.htm

Contact ( the best way is to write a letter to each member) the members on this Committee and explain to them that this Bill has not had a proper and full evaluation by all the members of the industry that it will affect. The Bill would eliminate the experience and expertise of the Chief of Inspections and put that positions duties and responsibilities in the hands of an inexperienced and unqualified political appointee (all future Commissioners)

The BILL must NOT leave the House Steering, Policy, and Scheduling Committee. You can help defeat this Bill by contacting all members of this Committee and express your views especially that our industry has not had enough exposure to the ramification and far reaching effects of this Bill.

An email can help but does not get the attention of the above. At minimum a telephone to your representative voicing your objection to this Bill would be helpful.             You should make time to some to fulfill one of the more important actions above to defeat this Bill. Posting this newsletter in your plant will help getting the word around to other engineers and firemen.

Dear Representative ___________________,

I am writing to voice my opposition to Senate Bill 2473, a bill presently in the House Steering, Policy and Scheduling Committee. This Bill will eliminate the long-standing position of Chief of Inspections in the Department of Public Safety and transfer the duties of this position to a political appointee, the Commissioner of Public Safety.

The Commissioner of Public Safety is a political appointee that will not have the experience, education qualifications to fulfill properly the duties of the Chief of Inspections.

This Bill would open political pressures, which would affect Public Safety in the Commonwealth that is not allowed under the present statues.

This very important Bill has not had the proper advertisement and publicity to all citizens of the Commonwealth that would be affected by Public Safety. It has been silently moved along without opposition until it has reached your Committee. You now have the chance to have it remain in your committee until the full ramifications and consequences of it can be explored and the many citizens directly and indirectly connected given a chance for input.

The position of Chief of Inspections has had a long record of Public Safety success due to its force given by the present statutes that guard it. It should not be eliminated by the proposed, politically motivated, legislation. The Chief of Inspections oversees numerous licenses operators with the expertise and qualifications to secure the highest Public Safety demands of the State.

I trust you will give this matter full consideration as the proposed Bill intends to reduce Public Safety in Massachusetts to whims of political appointments and ignore the record of past accomplishments by qualified and experienced Chiefs of Inspection.

Sincerely,

Your Name and Address
